When Children’s Aid Society gets involved

Families are complicated, with each person bringing a different personality and particular issues to the family dynamic. While no family is ever without its problems, sometimes conflicts can escalate to the level that children’s aid societies get involved. Unfortunately, when this happens it can often bring an even higher level of stress to the family.

The Children’s Aid Society occupies an important role in making sure that all children are protected from abusive situations. However, it is very common for families to come under scrutiny in these investigations based off of unfounded allegations. Once you are involved in these situations, it can feel like an uphill battle to show the society that you are a fit parent and that your family does not need legal intervention.

Once you are part of a Children’s Aid Society investigation, it is important to talk with your lawyer as soon as possible in the process to ensure that you are fully informed of your rights and how to proceed going forward. Common situations where a lawyer can be of help include when the children are still in the home but the Children’s Aid Society is actively involved and when the children have already been removed and are under a protection order.

While it can often seem like you have very little voice in these situations, it’s important to remember that it is possible to challenge the Children’s Aid Society in court if necessary. However, this may not always be the best course of action, and a lawyer can listen to the details of your situation and help you make the best decision for your particular circumstances.
